Guiding Your Next Steps to Lifelong Wellness and Physical Activity.
We will be here for you every step of the way. Our education consultants will work with you and your family to determine the least restrictive setting for physical education services.
An adapted physical education teacher is part of the multidisciplinary assessment team whose responsibilities include assessing and identifying an individual’s needs in movement skills.
Adapted physical education teachers provide direct adapted physical education service to individuals, identified through the individual education program (IEP) team process, who need specialized instruction. Appropriate measurable goals and objectives are included in the individual’s IEP.
If a child with a disability cannot participate in the regular physical education program, individualized instruction in physical education designed to meet the child's unique needs shall be provided. All adapted physical education services will be accurately indicated on the individual’s IEP with appropriate goals and measurable objectives, aligned with physical education curriculum standards, and recorded and monitored by the adapted physical education teacher.
We offer a complete service that includes observing the student's recess and/ or physical education class, interviewing the physical education teacher and/ or classroom teacher, evaluating the student's academic record, reviewing the student's medical records, assessing the student's gross motor needs, establishing Adapted Physical Education goals, advising the parent's throughout the IEP process, and advocating for the least restrictive environment.
We provide Adapted physical activity (APA) focusing on sport or physical exercise activities for people with an impairment, health problem, or otherwise lower functional capacity, making it challenging to participate in ordinary physical activities.
APA services are offered virtually or in-person with COVID protocols for safety.
APA is often a fun, interactive, and exciting class for students. We may use music to motivate students and engage students with fun sports activities.
We offer consultation, which may include classroom management in the Adapted Physical Education and Physical Education setting, curriculum planning, and facilities and equipment planning. Consultation services are most often provided to special education teachers, physical education teachers, and parents/ guardians providing physical education to their life-skills classes.
First-year teachers can sometimes feel overwhelmed with the demands of Adapted Physical Education assessments, goal writing, providing and documenting services, classroom management, and the list can go on... Mentoring is a process that can range from a set of structured assistance and support activities to an informal buddy system. This mentorship is designed to answer a new teacher’s questions, provide emotional support, physical activity lesson planning, and fill in the gaps left by university teacher training programs. We will provide an individualized, comprehensive, coherent, and sustained professional development program to train, support, and ultimately retain Newly hired APE Teachers!
